Deerwalk is pleased to announce the 1.5 release of Makalu, a data analytics platform. This release includes the following key features:

Customizable Tabs and Tab Names

In Makalu 1.5, tabs are customizable and can be renamed as requested by each client. Also, only tabs that have data underneath them will display to the user. For instance, if a client does not have Lab or Pharmacy data, those tabs will not appear in their Makalu user interface.

Added Fields in Result Pages

User selected search fields in Data Search (CL100) and Member Search (MB100) forms will now be visible as data columns in the Data Search Results (CL200) and Member Search Results (MB200) pages respectively. For instance, if a user enters the search filters of diagnosis, service date and provider the search results will display those three columns in addition to all standard Data Search / Member Search results columns.

Health Plan Report Enhancements

The formatting of the Makalu Health Plan Report has been enhanced so the report is more reader friendly. Alignment of header titles and numbers are now designed so that they no longer drop down into more than one row. Consistent formatting for how words, numbers and sections display in the report has been applied throughout with this release.

Cascading Implementation

Most of the modules in Makalu are now implemented using Cascading. Cascading is an application framework for Java developers to quickly and easily develop robust Data Analytics and Data Management applications on Apache Hadoop.

Member Analytics

After the implementation of Member Analytics, Makalu 1.5 is truly member centric. Previously, single report’s data was written in multiple record types in the database. Now, all metrics are stored in a single elastic search record type called "MemberSearch". This change means that all reports now will be derived either from claims data directly or from MemberSearch records.
