Deerwalk Releases Plan Analytics Version 7.7

Posted by Deerwalk Engineering Team on June 13, 2018

Deerwalk is proud to announce enhanced features of Plan Analytics, the flagship population health analytics and reporting application, with version 7.7 released earlier this week. The release is available immediately and includes a new Trend Analysis report that is a collection of three charts that forecast paid/allowed claim amounts; incurred but not reported (IBNR) claims, and medical risk trend using the Milliman MARA predictive modeling scores:

This new information will allow users to more efficiently and succinctly forecast future spending. Not only can the new report be scheduled to automatically run on a periodic basis, the charts can be incorporated in the user's dashboard view when logging into Plan Analytics.

The Plan Analytics 7.7 release also features:

  • 2 New Quality Metrics -
  1. Heart failure on ACE/ARB- Members with a Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) diagnosis on angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor and/or an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB).
  2. Persistent asthma controller med ratio > 50%- Individuals with persistent asthma aged 5-64 years who had a possession ratio of controller medications to total asthma medication of 0.50 or greater.
  • 15 New Chronic Conditions - Plan Analytics’ ability to identify chronic conditions makes it easier for healthcare providers to gain insight into commonly targeted populations. Deerwalk customers can determine the prevalence of these conditions across the entire covered pool or by slicing the population into meaningful subsets. A user can delve deeper into the population subsets and examine utilization metrics for specific events, such as ER visits, office visits, admissions, and re-admissions.

Plan Analytics looks across different data types to determine if a member qualifies as having a chronic condition or not.  This approach is vastly superior to relying on just a single element such as a diagnosis on a medical claim.

Users can easily view the members having each condition and create reporting cohorts that span across multiple conditions, all in real-time.

The new chronic conditions added in Release 7.7 include:

ADHD Cerebral Palsy Lower Back Pain
Alzheimer's Chromosomal Abnormalities Metabolic Disorders
Autism Chronic Respiratory Failure Metabolic Syndrome
Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia Developmental Disorders, Other Paralysis, Other
CKD Intellectual Disabilities Sickle Cell Disease

The additions bring the total chronic conditions available for reporting in Plan Analytics to 39

Looking ahead: Deerwalk is planning to add another savings-based report addressing opportunities in the injectable drugs place-of-service space in Release 7.8, scheduled for July 9th. Plan Analytics will also include a new report allowing customers a look at the trends and variances in medical and pharmacy service categories. The report will track total cost (expressed as a per-member or per-employee per month value), unit cost, and overall utilization for each service category.
